Section 9006 of the health care bill mandates that beginning with 2012 transactions all businesses will have to issue 1099 tax forms not just to contract workers but to any individual or corporation from which they buy more than $600 in goods or services in a tax year. That means that during 2011 you should start getting Federal ID numbers from all vendors that you purchase from by asking them to fill out IRS form W-9. The form is here: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/fw9.pdf As standard prcactice for settin up new contractors/suppliers, V-Purchasing obtains W-9's and keeps them on file.
